1. IDENTIFICATION OF CHEMICAL

2. COMPOSITION

Composition: Ortho phosphoric acid 5%, Butyl ethoxol 40%, Butanol

3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

Main Hazards: Flammable. Harmful by inhalation and in contact with skin.

Irritating to the skin.

4. FIRST AID MEASURES

Skin contact: In the case of skin contact, flood the splashed area with large

quantities of water.

Eye contact: If the substance has entered the eyes, wash out with water or saline solution for at least 15 minutes.

Ingestion: If the chemical has been confined to the mouth give large

quantities of water as a mouth wash. Ensure that the mouth

wash is not swallowed. If the chemical has been swallowed

give about 250 ml of water to dilute in the stomach severe

cases obtain medical attention.

Inhalation: Remove the casualty out of the danger area after first ensuring your own safety. Loosen the patients clothing. If the casualty is unconscious, place in the recovery position and monitor breathing. Apply artificial respiration only if patient is not breathing. Seek medical attention when anyone has symptoms apparently due to swallowing or inhalation.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

Exposure hazards: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes. Material is flammable.

Suitable extinguisher: Extinguish with carbon dioxide, dry chemical, vaporising liquid or waterspray.

ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal protection: Complete eye and face protection and gloves.

Leaks & spills: Absorb into dry earth or sand. Transfer to a closable salvage container for disposal by an appropriate method or retain for recovery.

Clean-up procedures: Wash the spillage site with large amounts of water

HANDLING AND STORAGE

Handling requirements: Wear eye protection, gloves and protective clothing.

When using do not smoke.

Storage precautions: Store in a cool. Dry, well-ventilated area well away from heat or other sources of ignition. Keep away from oxidising agents.

Avoid contact with: Can react with oxidising materials. Nitration should be carefully controlled.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Health effects skin: Irritating to the skin. Prolonged contact may cause dermatitis. Harmful if absorbed through the skin.

Eyes: Irritating to the eyes.

Inhalation: Harmful if inhaled. Material is irritating to mucous membranes and the upper respiratory tract. Symptoms may include dizziness, headache, nausea and mental confusion.

Prolonged inhalation may cause liver and kidney damage.

Ingestion: Harmful if swallowed. Ingestion may cause nausea, vomiting and symptoms of damage to the central nervous system. Ingestion of large amounts could cause kidney damage

12. Ecological effects

Ecotoxicity: Slightly toxic to freshwater fish and organisms. Moderately toxic to marine fish and organisms. Slightly toxic to mammalian wildlife.

Persistence: Biodegradable. Floats on water. Evaporates slowly. Causes oxygen depletion of surface waters.

DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

Waste disposal: Small volumes may be allowed to evaporate in a safe open area. Larger volumes may be burnt in a chemical incinerator equipped with afterburner and scrubber. Where there is no incinerator available, transfer to a waste solvent drum for collection by a Specialist Disposal Company.
