3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

 


  Main Hazards:         Flammable. Harmful by inhalation and in contact with skin.  

                                    Irritating to the skin.

 


4. FIRST AID MEASURES

 


Skin contact:         In the case of skin contact, flood the splashed area with large quantities of water.

Eye contact:          If the substance has entered the eyes, wash out with water or saline solution for at least 15 minutes.

         Ingestion:          If the chemical has been confined to the mouth give large   

                                    quantities of water as a mouth wash. Ensure that the mouth 

                                    wash is not swallowed. If the chemical has been swallowed

                                    give about 250ml of water to dilute in the stomach. In severe

                                    cases obtain medical attention.

Inhalation:         Remove the casualty out of the danger area after first ensuring your own safety. Loosen the patients clothing. If the casualty is unconscious, place in the recovery position and monitor breathing. Apply artificial respiration only if patient is not breathing. Seek medical attention when anyone has symptoms apparently due to swallowing or inhalation.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES

 


Exposure hazards:         Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes. Material is flammable.

Suitable extinguisher:        Extinguish with carbon dioxide, dry chemical, vaporising liquid or waterspray.

Personal protection:      Complete eye and face protection and gloves.

    Leaks & spills:       Contain with earth or sand. Transfer to a closable salvage

                                                container for disposal be an appropriate method or retain for

                                                            recovery

   Clean-up procedures:       Transfer to sealed containers for disposal by approved

                                               methods

 


  1. HANDLING AND STORAGE

 


Handling requirements:       Wear eye protection, gloves and protective clothing.

                                               When using do not smoke.

    Storage precautions:      Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area well away from heat

or other sources of ignition. Keep away from oxidising agents. The storage of this product is subject to the

“HIGHLY FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS AND LIQUIFIED GASES REGULATIONS”. Guidance can be obtained from the HSE note ‘storage of flammable liquids in containers’.

Avoid contact with:         Can react with oxidising materials. Nitration should be carefully controlled.

 

 


11.  TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

 


Health effects skin:        Harmful if absorbed through the skin. The liquid irritates the skin and can cause dermatitis.

                             Eyes:          The vapour and liquid is irritating to the eyes.

Inhalation:           Harmful if inhaled. High concentrations are destructive to tissues of the mucous membranes and upper respiratory tract. Symptoms of exposure may include burning sensation, coughing, wheezing, laryngitis, and shortness of breath, headache, nausea and vomiting.

Ingestion:            Harmful if swallowed. Ingestion may cause nausea and vomiting.

Ecotoxicity:           Slightly toxic to freshwater fish and organisms. Moderately toxic to marine fish and organisms. Slightly toxic to mammalian wildlife.

 


  1. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS

 

Waste disposal:           Do not allow into drains or watercourses or dispose of where ground or surface waters may be affected. Wastes, including emptied containers, are controlled wastes and should be disposed of in accordance with regulations made under the Control of Pollution Act and the environmental Protection Act.
